Oil can be pumped through the Trans-Mountain pipeline expansion as of today (Wednesday), after final approval of the last applications by the Canada Energy Regulator.
The twinning of the pipeline will more than double the capacity of its exports from Alberta to the B-C coast.
Trans-Mountain says it expects the first shipload of Canadian crude to be loaded aboard a tanker in Burnaby by mid-month.
It’s been a long, 12-year journey to this point.
Costs soared to 34-billion dollars, and the federal government had to step in to purchase the company when the original owners threatened to shut down the project over opposition from some B-C indigenous leaders.
