Local dance studios to perform with touring Kids Pop show

Two local dance studios will both face the bright lights of Vanier Hall as guest performers in the upcoming Mini Pop Kids Live show.

Judy Russel’s Enchainment Dance Studio and Dance Your Hart Out will join the artists on stage as backup dancers in the May 26th show.

“We found out [about the show] in mid-March, I thought it was pretty cool. Being a backup dancer is exciting,” Heidi Bernard, a Dance Your Hart Out dancer told My PG Now.

“I think it is going to be a great opportunity,” Audrey Arnott, another dancer, added. “When I found I was really excited to do it but also a bit nervous because it is kind of scary being a backup dancer.”

“Especially dancing for a big company,” Tianna Johansen chimed in.

The trio of dancers said the studio started learning the three dances for the performance in April.

“We work on them twice a week,” Bernard explained. “They sent us videos to learn from, we have to polish and make sure it all looks cohesive.”

Caitlin McCormick, a dance teacher at Dance Your Hart Out, said her team has been meeting three times a week for the last month and a half getting ready.”

She said most of their performances happen at competitions, and an event like this where her dancers can just focus on the fun of it has been a nice change of pace.

“Because it is with singers it feels like a bigger deal,” McCormick said. “It is a new opportunity for them, it is like a professional job.”

The show will be at 3:00 in the afternoon on May 26th.
