Happy Birthday, Mr. PG!

The big man in town is celebrating his 64th birthday today.

Mr. PG was unveiled on this day (May 8) in 1960 prior to a Rotary International conference which was held in the Simon Fraser Inn.

Harold Moffat, who would become mayor of Prince George from 1970-1979, is credited with the idea to create a mascot that showed the forestry industry’s importance to the town and region.

In his 64 years, Mr. PG has appeared in parades across the province and stood in multiple locations across the city before eventually settling at the highway intersection where he is now.

Mr. PG’s Son, formerly a telephone booth, still stands in the garden next to the exploration place.
