Vanderhoof’s Wild Goose Chase Race set for Saturday

A popular event will kick off the spring season in Vanderhoof.

The 44th Wild Goose Chase Race takes place on Saturday in front of W.L. McLeod Elementary School starting at 10 am.

Organizer, Zoe Dhillon said they are expecting another great turnout from all around the Highway 16 corridor.

“Last year we had 250 participants – we are hoping to get close to that this year – we will see. We have a huge number that come out from Prince George, and neighbouring communities like Burns Lake and Fort St. James, it really is a popular event.”

“It just feels like a family event. We are a small town and it feels like a small town event but even with all of the people, you know everyone and are cheering for everyone else. We have lots of door prizes, maybe that is why people keep coming back. But, it’s an easy event.”

Usually held during the first weekend in May, this year’s date was adjusted in order to avoid overlapping with Red Dress Day events.

Participants can opt for either a 3.5km or 8km running race, or a 5km walking race.

The event was first launched in 1978.
