City of Prince George establishes Emergency Reception Centre location

The City of Prince George has established a permanent Emergency Reception Centre for the summer.

The four trailers have been leased and delivered to the back of the Kin Centre, thanks to provincial funding.

“While our ultimate goal remains a more permanent solution, we are encouraged by this significant step forward,” said Manager of Emergency Programs Tanya Spooner.

“Prince George is the first region in British Columbia to receive a dedicated site of this nature. This setup will alleviate stress on our team and ensure faster response times when we need to activate and support evacuees.”

During last year’s devastating wildfire season, the City activated the Emergency Operations Centre on May 5th, and it provided host community services for 139 days.

During that time, the Emergency Support Services Reception Centre was moved eight times to accommodate other municipal activities.

The ESS was activated this past weekend to support evacuees from Fort Nelson.
