Northern BC Nurses cycling 700km for charity

Two nurses are in the middle of a bike ride between Prince Rupert and Prince George.

Mikaela Pond and Jennifer Miller are raising money for Hope Air; a charity that provides flights to those who can’t afford to get to their medical appointments.

Pond is a nurse in Fort St John and says the charity does amazing work.

“Our goal is to raise $6,000, which would be 24, 25 flights for Northern BC residents so they can get the health care that they need.”

Pond says they have received an outpouring of support from people that have been helped by Hope Air. She talked about a man they met in Prince Rupert who needed to get to Vancouver for treatment.

“He was so low income at the time, that he couldn’t even imagine getting there and Hope Air flew him down and got him set up with a hotel. That gentleman was almost in tears when he was talking about it, it was quite moving.”

She added that people honking their horns as making donations as they drive by have been a big boost for their tired legs.

Her partner on the ride, Jennifer Miller is from Burns Lake.

The pair left New Hazelton early this morning and expect to arrive in Prince George on Friday. Their fundraising page can be found here.
