PG’s Emergency Reception Centre closed to public as Fort Nelson evacuees return home

For the time being, no wildfire evacuees remain in Prince George.

According to the city, all 330 displaced Fort Nelson residents headed home on Monday once they got the all clear to return.

Manager of Emergency Programs, Tanya Spooner explains what happens now until the next evacuation order is issued.

“We did some final issues of gas cards and things like that on Monday and most of them started returning home immediately. We are just resetting our reception centre at the moment and just making sure we are ready for what the next evacuation might be this summer.”

She added the Emergency Reception Centre, located behind the CN Centre is still lightly staffed as they prepare for the next possible wave of evacuees.

“We have a couple of staff members on site doing general emergency programs work for the rest of this week and then we will have one of our regular full-time staff members there manning the site until the next evacuations.”

Spooner reminds residents that despite the recent rain, we are still in a drought and that only campfires are allowed.
