PHOTOS: Prince George Kidney Walk raises funds for research, education and patient support

$11,880 and counting has been raised through the 16th Annual Kidney Walk in Prince George.

Around 60 people attended the walk at Masich Place Stadium this morning. (Sunday)

“All the funds go into things like research, public education and most importantly, patient support for people who are suffering from kidney disease,” said Kidney Foundation Prince George Chapter President Paul Ravelle

“With kidney disease, kidney disease is a silent disease, you can lose 80 per cent of your kidney function and not realize it, so that’s where a lot of people become involved with the Kidney Foundation, they’ve been diagnosed with kidney disease, they need some support services.”

Ravelle said support services in the North are fairly good.

“We’ve got four dialysis units in Northern BC,” he continued.

“Plus in Prince George we’ve got a home dialysis training centre so people from smaller communities can actually come into Prince George and learn how to dialyze at home so they’re not forced to move out of their community.”

Ravelle added more than $200,000 was raised throughout BC and the Yukon.
