Kodiaks recruit quarterback from University of Manitoba

The Prince George Kodiaks will have university level experience under centre this season.

The team has signed Quarterback Sawyer Thiessen after he attended their evaluation camp last month.

“It’s an honour to join such a well-respected team in the community,” Thiessen said.

“Having an opportunity to compete with a new team in a beautiful city is a once-in-a-lifetime chance, I intend to make the most of every moment.”

The Steinbach, Manitoba product played with the University of Manitoba Bison last season as a backup.

“Recruiting is about getting to know players and families, establishing relationships, and making sure there is a good fit for both player and program,” said Kodiaks Head Coach Jamie Boreham.

“Coach Olie and Coach Dobie (University of Manitoba) had nothing but great things to say about Sawyer as a player, person, and competitor. Sawyer adapted well to new players and coaching, his experience with the Bisons should help him be successful here.”

More than 100 players attended the evaluation camp last month.

The Kodiaks will open their BC Football Conference season at home against the Vancouver Island Raiders on July 20th.
