PG man arrested in Alberta after stealing Wonderbread truck

A Prince George man has been arrested and charged in Grande Prairie after stealing a Wonderbread truck from a Save On Foods.

GP police say the PG man took the truck just after 11:45 am on June 6th and was driving it erratically.

Multiple police units were notified of the theft, including a dog team.

After tailing the truck covertly, police deployed a spike belt which resulted in the truck stopping at a nearby Walmart parking lot.

Two members of the public, who police say “were not loafing around,” saw the man leave the truck and stopped him from fleeing the parking lot long enough for officers to catch up and make the arrest.

44-year-old Mark Anderson Mitchell, a Prince George resident, was behind the wheel. He was charged with:

  • Theft of motor vehicle
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
  • Fail to comply with probation order

Mitchell was not taken away on an empty stomach, police noted he had started eating some of the bread in the truck – though he left the crusts.

He will appear at the Alberta Court of Justice in Grande Prairie today (Monday).

Sgt Michael Jaszczyszyn, from the Grande Prairie RCMP, said “Fortunately most of the bread was saved however, after the damage, the truck itself was toast.”
