2025 will mark another major milestone for PG’s CN Centre.
The roughly 6,000 seat arena will be celebrating its 30th Anniversary.
CN Centre Manager, Glen Mikkelsen told the media today (Monday) if the walls could talk, a lot of memorable stories from the past three decades would be told.
“This little venue has punched above its weight in terms of the types of quality entertainers from around the world that have played here in Northern British Columbia. It has really been something special to be a part of that and of course, some of my notable moments here was when Elton John was here.”
The iconic show that rocked the CN Centre nearly 15 years ago still brings back vivid memories for Mikkelsen.
“That is truly one of the most famous performers on the planet to play in Prince George. It was unbelievable – when I was booking that show with the promoters they said people will be still talking about that show ten years from now. It is fourteen years from now and people still talk about that show and it had such a significant impact on people in this region,” added Mikkelsen.
Local mayor Simon Yu was part of the engineering team when the arena was getting built.
“Obviously for the CN Centre we picked the right team. We built the right venue and I think it is a beautiful facility. The setting, the size and I just want people to know of how proud we are of what we have here.”
Today (Monday) the first major event of the anniversary will be the return of Cirque du Soleil’s Crystal, which will run from March 6-9.
The performance first came to CN Centre in the spring of 2018.
Mikkelsen noted the first-class hospitality shown to the theatre company during the performance’s first visit seven years ago played a big role in wanting to come back.
“Everybody just seems to share what it means to be a northern in Prince George when all these people from around the world come to visit and we open our arms and embrace them in any way we can, which makes this community extra-special.”
“When Crystal first came here, we were one of the very first cities to host it. It had first played in Montreal and then it was here in April so we were pretty lucky at that time to host it.”
Tickets are available now to Cirque members prior to going on sale to the general public on June 25th.
