Update: Heat warning ends, Prince George still under severe thunderstorm watch and air quality warning

Updated 4:49 pm, Monday, July 22nd:

The heat warning has ended, however, the severe thunderstorm watch and special air quality statement remain.

Original story:

There are three special weather alerts in place over the Prince George-Vanderhoof area.

High temperature, a severe thunderstorm watch, and air quality advisory are all in place this afternoon (Monday).

Environment Canada says “Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, damaging hail and torrential rain.”

If a storm does start, everyone is recommended to stay inside.

They also said the widespread smoke is expected to impact our part of the province for the next 24-48 hours. Winds are then expected to blow most of the smoke to the east.

People with respiratory or health issues are warned the smoke could have more of an impact on them than others.

Today is also expected to be the final day of the heat wave with a forecasted high of 28 degrees before dropping to 19 tomorrow.

This comes as wildfires have been causing evacuation orders and alerts all across the region in the last 48 hours.

You can find these alerts and the forecast here.
