The Prince George Airport Authority is targeting twice-a-week service to Las Vegas.
Prince George Airport Authority President and CEO Gord Duke presented the airport’s annual report to Prince George City Council at last night’s (Monday) meeting.
Following the presentation, Councillor Ron Polillo inquired about new destinations in addition to the recently announced Pacific Coastal Airlines flight to Kelowna, saying he was thinking of Vegas.
“We have a very active Manager of Air Service Development, that’s a target,” Duke said in response.
“The thing with Vegas, typically it’s got to be twice a week, because a week in Vegas is too hard, so that’s what our plan is, is to go after twice-a-week, because I really do think that would be successful.”
In terms of asks, Duke added Puerto Vallarta was by the most requested destination, and then Las Vegas.
“The thing with Vegas as well, it used to be really cheap to go there, and it’s no longer a bargain,” Duke continued.
“That’s the tough sell you have, it has to be twice a week.”
Councillor Kyle Sampson asked if Porter Airlines is considering Prince George for expansion.
“Porter is taking delivery on 42 jets over the next three years, and we’re in line,” Duke responded.
“They do believe it’s a viable market, and like I say, we’ve got an aggressive Air Service Development Manager who is actively pursuing that.”
“Porter is definitely very aggressive, and they’re also investing in an airport just outside of Montreal so it’s certainly an interesting strategy.”
In addition to the presentation, City Council also granted the first three readings of a rezoning bylaw to allow the development of the Prestige YXS Hotel, which was announced yesterday. (Monday)
