Kodiaks drop week two matchup against Rebels

The Prince George Kodiaks are now 1-1 on the season after a 45-25 loss to the Westshore Rebels.

The Kodiaks jumped out to a 4-0 lead, with Brady Harper hitting one field goal and putting one he missed through the back of the end zone.

Following a bad snap by the Kodiaks, the Rebels brought their fans at Starlight Stadium in Langford to their feet when Quarterback Ethan Pickard found Linden Williams for a touchdown on the first play of their drive.

On the ensuing kickoff, Myron Brown put the Kodiaks back in front with a kick return touchdown.

After that, it was all Westshore, as the Rebels put 35 points on the board with three rushing touchdowns, a pick-six, and one more passing touchdown.

The Kodiaks defence had no answer for the Rebels jet sweep, a play that earned Westshore big yards almost every time they ran it.

Pickard also sliced through the Kodiaks secondary, finding open receivers in whatever gaps they could find in the Kodiaks zone coverage.

Offensively, the Kodiaks found some success, but were unable to sustain it enough to put together a scoring drive until late in the game.

In the fourth quarter, Sawyer Thiessen found Carson Briere for a touchdown pass and ran one in himself.

The Kodiaks are on the road again next weekend, facing off against the Langley Rams.

The Kodiaks (1-1) are sitting 4th in the BC Football Conference.
