Organizers set hopeful goal for 2015 Terry Fox Run

After another successful year, the Prince George Terry Fox Run has set some lofty goals.

Having surpassed the 2014 goal of having 1,000 participants, organizers are aiming to raise 35 thousand dollars, in honour of the run’s 35th anniversary.

“He struck a chord in everyone’s heart.” says Run Organizer Scott McWalter. “This is a national, iconic hero and to see the bravery he exuberated when running across Canada in the Marathon of Hope is something that personally resonates with everyone.

In 1979 Fox traveled to Prince George along with Rick Hansen to take part in the Labour Day Classic.

“Terry Fox wanted to do half of it [but] he ended up doing the entire thing just because he felt so motivated and inspired by the crowd and that finish gave him the confidence to start the marathon of hope the following year” remembers McWalter.

Prince George’s Terry Fox run takes place this Sunday the 20th from 9am to Noon at the Community Foundation Park.
