Integris Credit Union expanding into McBride

Integris Credit Union will become McBride’s only financial institution after its Board of Directors approved a recommendation to expand into the village.

Scotiabank was the village’s only financial institution until October 2023, when it announced it would be shutting down in September 2024.

In a release, Integris said they “will be partnering with [the] community to secure a suitable space for a physical location. We will be setting clear expectations regarding minimum deposit balances required to support a viable branch, and the timelines within which the balances need to be achieved.”

“As a financial cooperative, we recognize that physical access to financial services is a cornerstone to economic and business viability; that reality is no different in small and remote communities,” Alison Hoskins, the CEO of Integris, said.

“What is different, however, is how we have to work, in partnership, to make that physical community infrastructure possible. At Integris, we are committed to working together to meet those needs.”

Integris did not give a target date for when their McBride location could be open, but they said McBride residents will be given an update on their progress every three months.
