PG’s unemployment rate stays at 4.4% in July

Over the past 12 months, the jobless mark in Prince George has been slashed in half.

After coming in at 8.8% in July of 2023 – the unemployment rate has remained at 4.4 the last two months according to Stats Canada.

Labour Division Analyst, Vince Ferrao told MyPGNow.com the city only saw a small jump in the people employed.

“There is a little bit more employment. In July, we had 56,700 and in June there were 56,300 – just slightly more than the previous month.”

BC’s unemployment rate spiked to 5.5% in July after it was 5.2 the month prior but is still second-lowest among the provinces trailing only Saskatchewan.

Their report says that total employment was “little changed” with 2,800 jobs lost in the month.

Average hourly wages were up 5.2 per cent year-over-year in July, easing from a rate of 5.4 per cent in June.
