A section of Quesnel -Hixon Road, damaged by a landslide back in 2021, will not be fixed.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the 400-metre section is being permanently closed, and the Cottonwood River Canyon Bridge is being taken out of service.
It stated after three years of planning under the Cariboo Road Recovery Project, it was determined that reopening the road would require hundreds of millions of dollars for new road and bridge construction.
The Ministry said the decision was made based on ensuring public safety and managing taxpayer money wisely.
It added Ten Mile Lake Road, Olson Road, Morgan Road and Plett Road continue to provide access to Highway 97, although the ministry says it is considering additional safety improvements in the area.
