The City of Prince George is set to make a big splash next summer.
Today (Friday) it was announced the Prince George Aquatic Centre will play host to the provincial championships put on by the BC Summer Swimming Association (BCSSA) from August 11 – 17.
This meet will attract approximately 1,800 athletes in four disciplines which include diving, artistic swimming, water-polo and speed swimming.
The competition is expected to bring approximately 6,000 attendees to the northern capital.
“These athletes are the best of their region, and then they compete at provincials to be the best in the province. The ages range from six years old to having adults swim. This competition is one of the largest annual meets in Canada and the culmination of eight regional qualifying meets. Prince George will be represented from the Pisces Swim Club who train out of the PG Aquatic Centre,” said Rory Boyle, Cariboo Regional Director.
City Aquatics Division manager Jim Worthington stated this is the second time this prestigious competition has been held in Prince George with the first occurring in 2007.
“Having competitive clubs train out of the Aquatic Centre and hosting a large competition such as the BCSSA championships is in-part what the Aquatic Centre was built for, and we are excited to showcase Prince George and the Aquatic Centre to athletes and visitors from around the province,”
