Junior hockey returns to Prince George with Cougars and Spruce Kings camps

A sure sign that fall is coming to the Northern Capital.

This week marks the return of Junior Hockey in Prince George, as both the Cougars and Spruce Kings kick off their training camps for the upcoming season.

The Cougars’ camp starts tomorrow (Wednesday) at the CN Centre, but there will be no on-ice events until Thursday.

Highlights of the Cougars camp include the prospects showcase, which pits Teams Pogge and Souray against each other on Thursday at 6:00 pm.

The two rosters will feature listed prospects and free agent invites for players between the ages of 15 and 17.

The camp will conclude with the annual Rob Charney Cup Intra-squad game on Sunday at 6:00.

Last season’s Intra-squad game saw Team Hamhuis capture a 7-4 win over Team Brewer.

All scrimmages and ice times at the CN Centre will be open to the public, and a full schedule of the Cougars’ camp can be found here.

Over at Kopar Memorial Arena, the Spruce Kings’ training camp kicks off on Friday.

The Spruce Kings will split their camp roster into two teams, Team Red and Team Grey.

The two teams will play each other each day of camp, puck drop is at 6:00 pm on Friday and Saturday and at 2:00 pm on Sunday.

Entrance to training camp will be free of charge.

Following the three-day camp, the Spruce Kings will open their preseason schedule on September 6th in Coquitlam.

A full schedule of the Spruce Kings camp can be found here.
