PG racing fans geared up for Hit to Pass weekend

It’s the Labour Day long weekend and that means Hit to Pass is being held at PGARA Speedway.

Marked as the most popular event on the racing calendar, Vice-President Aaron Conn says the sheer destruction of vehicles is always a big hit with the home crowd.

“You have to hit a car a lap in order to pass and for the laps to count. It’s been a popular event for years – it’s always held on the Labour Day long weekend and everybody looks forward to it.”

“It will be busy.”

Conn added roughly 35 cars were lined up along Highway 16 to get a jump on camping at the facility tonight, which opens at 5:30pm.

Many people arrived late Wednesday night and yesterday (Thursday) to beat the rest of the crowd. General admission gates open at 1:30 pm tomorrow (Saturday).

He admitted there have been even longer lines along the Yellowhead Highway in years past.

“We have seen it a little busier but we had the Ministry phone us and tell us that we have to put something out and we did and again we cannot stop them. I wouldn’t be surprised that there will be more cars coming.”

Racing gets underway at 7pm on Saturday followed by a Sunday matinee at 1.
