PG’s Ewert, Canada’s Wheelchair Rugby team to play for 5th at Paralympics

Preliminary tournaments are winding down for Northern BC’s Paralympic athletes.

Joel Ewert and the Canadian Wheelchair Rugby team will play for fifth at the Paris Paralympics tomorrow. (Monday)

Their opponent will be determined this afternoon.

This follows a 56-46 win over Denmark in the placing playoff.

The Canadians finished 1-2 in the preliminary round.

On Thursday, The Americans edged Canada 51-48, Ewert did not get in the game.

In Canada’s 54-47 victory over Germany on Friday, Ewert put two points on the board.

Canada capped off the preliminary round with a 50-46 loss to Japan.

Canada’s Men’s Wheelchair Basketball team, featuring Fort St. John’s Bo Hedges, will wrap up the preliminary round against Germany tomorrow.

Hedges notched two points in Canada’s 83-68 win over France on Friday.

Canada’s Women’s Wheelchair Basketball team, featuring former UNBC Timberwolve Kady Dandeneau is 1-1, and will wrap up preliminary play against Spain today.

Dandeneau put on a stellar showing in Canada’s 70-65 loss to China on Thursday, putting up 28 points and hauling in nine rebounds.

Dandeneau followed that performance with seven points and three rebounds in Canada’s 63-54 win over Great Britain.

Canada’s Women’s Sitting Volleyball team, featuring Smithers’ Jennifer McCreesh is 1-1 and will wrap up the preliminary round tomorrow against Rwanda.

Canada swept Slovenia on Thursday, and fell 3-1 to Brazil on Saturday.
