Updated: Weber out as Conservative candidate for PG-Mackenzie

Updated 7:09 pm, Monday, September 2nd:

Rachael Weber is no longer the BC Conservatives candidate in the Prince George-Mackenzie riding for the B.C. election on October 19th.

Weber announced on her Rachael Weber for Conservative MLA Facebook page that she was no longer running under the Conservative banner.

“Recently, due to the collaboration between opposing forces, the BC United and the Conservatives, and internal decisions, I was replaced this weekend,” the post reads.

“It is a matter of deep sadness for me, as I have always been a steadfast supporter of the Conservative principles and goals. Despite these challenges, my commitment to the values that brought me to this point remains unshaken. I believe this Conservative Party of BC is no longer Conservative but running under the guise of the name Conservative. They have allowed many BC United (Liberal) candidates to infiltrate the party and have lost sight of the real Conservative values we as Conservatives hold dear. Your new Conservative candidate for this riding will more than likely be BC United Liberal opposition.”

However, Weber also wrote in the post she “is seriously considering running as an Independent,” and will provide more details soon if she decides to do so.

The Conservatives may announce on Tuesday who will replace Weber in that riding but the speculation is that former BC United candidate Kiel Giddens will fill that position.

Original story:

There is speculation that a change could be coming in the Prince George-Mackenzie riding for the October 19th provincial election.

Richard Zussman of Global BC has reported that the Conservative Party of B.C. has decided to replace School District 57 trustee Rachael Weber as its candidate with an official announcement to come as early as Tuesday (Sept 3).

Zussman says the expectation is that former BC United candidate Kiel Giddens will replace Weber as the Conservative candidate for that riding.

Weber’s profile has been removed from the BC Conservative’s candidate web page.

My PG Now has reached out to the BC Conservative Party for confirmation but as of this afternoon (Monday) has not heard back from the party.
