Bond and Morris present King Charles III Coronation Medals to PG area residents

Five Prince George area residents were recognized for their contributions to the community today. (Thursday)

In front of around 40 people at Exploration Place, Prince George-Valemount MLA Shirley Bond and Prince George-Mackenzie MLA Mike Morris awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medals to Selen Alpay, Michael Schneider, Dustin Snyder and posthumously to Chuck Chin.

Additionally, the BC Medal of Good Citizenship was presented to Steve Hamilton.

The Coronation Medal was created to mark the Coronation of King Charles III, and was launched by Governor General of Canada Mary Simon.

The Medal recognizes those who have made significant contributions to Canada and their home province.

“This medal acknowledges dedication, commitment and being recognized as a difference maker. Both Dustin Snyder and Selen Alpay are exceptional people, working tirelessly to improve the community we live in,” Bond said.

“I am so grateful that I have had the privilege of getting to know them, learning from them and being inspired by them. They are very deserving recipients of the Coronation Medal.”

“Chuck Chin left a legacy of love for our community, through his amazing photographs. We are proud to honour his memory in this very special way,” Morris said.

“Both Michael Schneider and Steve Hamilton have had a significant impact in our region. They are role models and leaders in conservation and stewardship. I am proud to honour their dedication with these medals.”

Schneider was unable to attend today’s ceremony and will receive his medal at a later date.

The recipients received the medal, a certificate, and an outline of the protocol related to wearing the medal.
