Paralympics

Smithers’ Jennifer McCreesh is an Olympic medalist.

McCreesh and the Canadian sitting volleyball team beat Brazil 3 sets to 0 in the bronze medal game this morning.

Former UNBC student Bo Hedges of Fort St. John is, at time of writing, currently playing Germany for bronze in wheelchair basketball. You can get up-to-date results here.

Former UNBC Timberwolves basketball player, Kady Dandeneau, will play for Bronze against China in wheelchair basketball tomorrow.

BC Football Conference

The Prince George Kodiaks are in Chilliwack to play the Valley Huskers tonight at 7:00.

The Kodiaks have not won since the opening day of the season, and now sit with a 1-5 record.

The Huskers are 2-3 this year.

CFL

The BC Lions beat the league leading Montreal Alouettes 37-23 on the road yesterday – just Montreal’s second loss of the season.

BC improves to 7-6 this year, sitting on top of the West Division standings.

A Blue Bomber win against the Roughriders would give Winnipeg an identical record on top of the division.

NFL

It is the first weekend of the NFL season, fans will be huddled around their TVs all weekend soaking it all in.

None of it matters though, as the league’s quest for a Cheifs’ 3-peat is already well underway.

There was also a game in Brazil yesterday, the Eagles beat the Packers 34-29.

MLB

The Jays are now 10 games under .500 as the end of the season draws near.

They lost to the Braves 3-1 yesterday, they will play the rematch in Atlanta at 4:20 this afternoon.
