CNC Scrub Drive aims to ease Student Expenses

The College of New Caledonia is holding its annual Scrub Drive.

Starting Wednesday, the college will be collecting gently used scrubs from members of the medical community to be resold to students for $5 each.

In turn, the money generated from the scrub sale will be given back to the students.

The drive was started by Nancy Esopenko, a Nursing Instructor with the college.

“All the money goes to a bursary” said Esopenko. “So those students can apply for those bursaries to offset their educational costs.”

Now in its 5th year, the scrub drive has raised more than $7000 for CNC’s Making a Difference Bursary.

“It all started back in 2011 based off me seeing the need of students, seeing how many scrubs I actually had in my closet and trying to figure out a way to get those into the hands of students” said Esopenko.

Scrub donations can be delivered to the CNC Library, Lakewood Dental or the University Hospital’s Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation office until October 6th.

The scrub sale will be held at the CNC Gathering Place on October 7th.
