PG Mounties investigating fatal two-vehicle crash near Masich Place Stadium

The death of a Lheidli T’enneh elder is being investigated by the Prince George RCMP.

On Sunday, a fatal motor vehicle incident just after 2:30 p.m on Massey Drive near Laverdure Way took place, which claimed the life of Edie Frederick.

The initial investigation shows the taxi crossed the centre line, where it collided with a pickup truck.

The four people in the pickup truck and the taxi driver were not seriously injured; while Frederick, who was in the taxi, did not survive the incident.

Frontline police officers were joined by an RCMP Traffic Reconstructionist, and traffic in the area was disrupted for several hours as the investigation was underway.

“Investigators are looking for anyone who witnessed the event or the driving behaviour of the vehicles shortly before the incident. Also, if anyone who was driving in the area has dash camera footage capturing the incident, police officers encourage you to call the Prince George RCMP non-emergency line to speak with a police officer.

Our condolences go out to the family and friends of the deceased in their time of mourning,” stated Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.

As a result, the Lhedil T’enneh band office was closed on Monday to the mourn the loss.

In addition, a Community Grief Support Night was held on Wednesday at the House of Ancestors for Lheidli members only.
