Update: Missing Youth found safe

Update Sunday night at 9:00

RCMP have confirmed the missing girl has been located and is safe.

Previous story:

The BC RCMP are calling in resources from across the province to help find a missing child.

Six-year-old Oaklynn Schweder was last seen outside her residence on Southbank at 6:00 pm on Thursday.

According to the Burns Lake RCMP, she was last seen wearing a red/blue plaid dress, leggings with white bow ties, and pink socks.

She is on the autism spectrum and is non-verbal.

Mounties say significant resources from across BC, including RCMP, Search and Rescue, the BC Wildfire Service and volunteers are assisting with the search.

Canadian Rangers have also been called out to support search efforts.

Helicopters, remotely piloted aircraft systems and police service dogs have been deployed in the area as well.

The Skin Tyee Band is engaged and is assisting with coordinating volunteers and providing them with food and shelter.

“We are thankful for the outpouring of support including a large number of volunteers, who have all come together with the common goal of bringing Oaklynn Home Safely,” said Burns Lake RCMP Detachment Commander S/Sgt. Josh Smith.

“Locating Oaklynn remains our top priority. We continue to liaise with Oaklynn’s family to ensure they are supported and kept apprised.”

Mounties say local support and volunteers are being asked to carpool, as space is limited and congestion could hinder search and relief efforts.

Anyone with information on Oaklynn’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Burns Lake RCMP.
