The Prince George Kodiaks will once again recognize the local First Nation ahead of its final home game of the 2024 season against the Kamloops Broncos.
On Saturday, the junior football team will take to the field as the “Lheidli T’enneh Kodiaks” to honour the upcoming National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
This will be the second year the Kodiaks have partnered with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.
“Our partnership with the Prince George Kodiaks has been one of mutual respect and understanding, including last year’s game,” said Chief Dolleen Logan on behalf of the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation.
“The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is an opportunity to learn, reflect, and grow together. This opportunity allows both groups to exchange more than just history. Partnerships like this help pursue those goals for everyone.”
In addition, the Kodiaks will also be sporting new jerseys featuring the First Nation’s logo.
During the pre-game show, players will gift jerseys to Lheidli T’enneh members in a special ceremony honouring local Elders and dignitaries.
“We are proud to partner with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation and wear their name again,” said Jamie Boreham, Kodiaks Head Coach.
“As a team, we want to reflect our community and strengthen it. Reconciliation is a commitment to change, to unity, and we are excited to continue our partnership with the Lheidli T’enneh in pursuit of that goal.”
Kickoff is set for 6pm at Masich Place Stadium.
