Vanderhoof Resident wins Coach of the Year Award

Viasport BC named the winner of the Grassroots Coach of the Year Award Sunday.

Vanderhoof Speed Skating Coach Nicole Ebert was named as this years winner. Ebert has been coaching the Nechako Lakes Clippers since the club began 11 years ago.

“It means a lot. It’s one of those things you don’t look for because the big thing about coaching is the kids” said Ebert. “But it is neat to see coaches recognized because there are so many hours that are put in from coaches around the province and the country.”

In her 11 years, Ebert has been the driving force behind the club.

“It started with about 5 families and there were maybe twelve of us out there,” said Ebert. “Now we have 75 skaters and our skaters range in age.”

Ebert is also involved with the committee raising funds for an indoor swimming pool in Vanderhoof.
