BC SPCA’s Animal Shelter Operations contract coming to an end in Prince George

The BC SPCA will be unable to provide Animal Shelter Operations in Prince George at the end of the year.

This comes as the City awarded the contract to another provider during a recent request for proposal process.

Senior Manager of Animal Care Services, Jamey Blair says their plan to build a new facility is still too far out.

“Given that the project hasn’t started yet, and was anticipated to be completed closer to 2030, we’re really evaluating what steps we take next, given that we need to be out of our current facility at the end of this year.”

Solutions being looked at include retrofitting an existing space, or getting a smaller space to offer community service programs similar to other communities with no physical facility.

Blair says they’re committed to providing animal care and shelter in Prince George and the surrounding area, and will keep the community updated as they go forward.

Other services they provide will still be available such as Animal Protection Investigations, pet food banks, and more.

The contract is set to end December 31st.
