Prince George playing a big role in upcoming World War 2 film

Prince George residents may be able to spot a familiar location in the upcoming film Breakthrough.

After the American 106th Infantry Division faced a devastating counter-attack from the German army, the film follows a wounded Jewish soldier and a young German soldier who form a friendship while trapped together inside a foxhole.

Producer, Norm Coyne says the open arms of the community was why they chose to shoot parts of the film in Prince George.

“We had shot a couple of feature films up there a few years back, and the Director of Breakthrough, Kate Green, was really impressed how the community came together to support the production.”

“We started exploring, ‘could this be a project that would shoot in Prince George?’, and out of the gate she was just blown away by the response.”

Coyne says responses like that are what attract productions to a location.

The film will also have Canadian actor, William B. Davis who some may know as the mysterious Cigarette Smoking Man in X-Files, among other shows and films.

Coyne said his first feature film was with Davis, so he had wrote a letter telling him the affect it had on his career, and it would be another opportunity to do the same with others on this film, which he then jumped on board.

He added anyone interested in getting involved in films, keep up to date and follow those active in building the industry can check Barker Street Cinema, Story Institute, Picaroon Pictures, Six Sigma, and Northern FanCon.

The film is set to release in 2025, with a red carpet screening in Prince George.
