Update: DP Todd student passes away following fatal motor vehicle incident

The Prince George RCMP are investigating a fatal motor vehicle incident that claimed the life of a DP Todd Secondary Student.

According to police, the incident occurred on the 1500-block of the Old Cariboo Highway at around 7:00 pm Thursday, when a grey Pontiac Vibe left the highway.

Mounties located the driver, who was uninjured, at the scene.

Through the course of their investigation, officers arrested the driver for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, he was later released on paperwork with a future court date.

“Unfortunately, the single passenger in the vehicle did not survive the incident,” said Cpl. Jennifer Cooper of the Prince George RCMP.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim.”

School District 57 Superintendent Jameel Aziz spoke with Vista Radio.

“An 18-year-old student from DP Todd was tragically killed in an accident on Thursday evening of last week. His parent had notified the school to let them know on Friday morning and let us know that this had transpired – we responded by making sure our Emergency Critical Response Team was in place.”

Members of the school board’s Critical Emergency Response Team are providing support to students on-site today (Tuesday), they also made an appearance on Friday.

The RCMP are now looking for any further witnesses to the incident, or for anyone who may have caught the vehicle’s driving behaviour preceding the incident on either dash camera or video surveillance.
