The CIBC Run for the Cure takes place this Sunday.

The annual one kilometre walk or 5km run aims to raise funding for Breast Cancer research as well as spread awareness about the disease.

Breast Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Women.

“In 2015, it’s estimated that 25,000 Canadian women and 220 Canadian men will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer” said Co-Run Director Melissa Veregin. “These funds go towards research and getting that number down.”

The first Run for the Cure in Prince George was held in 1994. Since then, it has continued to gain momentum.

“This event has been happening for many years in Prince George” said Veregin. “It’s growing every year and we’re getting more and more support, so we’re getting towards that future without Breast Cancer.”

Registration for the run opens at 8:30 AM in front of City Hall with the the run set to start at 10 AM.
