IIO investigating the death of a Prince George man

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of BC is investigating the death of a Prince George man after his arrest by RCMP.

Information from police said on Wednesday, November 6th, officers detained the man for intoxication and transported him to the detachment, where he was found unresponsive in his cell later that night.

First aid was done, and the man was sent to the hospital in critical condition.

The IIO said they were notified shortly after, beginning their investigation, and learned the man had died in the hospital on Monday (November 11th).

They said initial investigative steps will look to find if any police action or inaction played a role in the man’s death.

Anyone with video footage or relevant information is asked to contact the Witness Line toll-free at 1-855-446-8477.
