Words unable to describe community support during Mavrik’s battle with cancer

Community members in Prince George have been rallying in support of 2-year-old Mavrik during his fight with cancer.

Since late October, He’s been battling high-risk neuroblastoma, which is an aggressive childhood cancer, requiring chemotherapy.

Mavrik’s father, Derek Turnbull says he’s been recovering from his first round of chemo.

“He had a couple different issues come up during what they called a down period of chemo.”

“He ended up with a blood infection, a lung infection, and metabolic acidosis, but it seems like they got most of those covered at this point.”

Turnbull says no words can describe the community’s support for Mavrik, with people he knows or doesn’t know reaching out.

Mavrik has seen some videos sent in support when he’s up and happy and is super happy about it.

The community has also been supporting the family through a GoFundMe, with a Carl’s Jr Fundraising Day on Saturday (November 23rd).

He says another round of chemo will be starting soon, adding that Mavrik’s doing ok right now and is in good spirits.
