Spruce Kings earn weekend split in Lower Mainland

When you go on the road, the goal is to get at least a split, and the Prince George Spruce Kings did just that.

A four-goal first period propelled the Spruce Kings to a 5-2 victory over the Coquitlam Express on Friday night.

Ethan Montroy, Brock Cummings, Lucas Veilleux and Evan Bellamy each scored in Friday’s opening frame.

After that, it was all Coquitlam, as the Express outshot the Spruce Kings 30-9 in the final two periods but Ryder Green stood strong, stopping 35 of the 37 shots he faced in the game.

Friday’s box score is here.

It was a high-scoring affair at the George Preston Arena last night (Saturday) as the Prince George Spruce Kings dropped an 8-5 decision to the Langley Rivermen.

Nicolas Papineau scored a pair for Prince George, while Kazumo Sasaki, Will Moore and Brady Anes each scored once.

Carter Wishart got the start in net for the Spruce Kings, but got hooked in the first after allowing four goals on 11 shots.
