Petition for safety improvements on Highway 16 gains quick traction

There’s a call for safety improvements on Highway 16 between Yellowhead Bridge and Boundary Road in Prince George.

It comes as a petition, which has already seen 386 signatures since being posted on Change.org on Friday, highlighting the dangerous terrain and wildlife.

Petition Creator, Natalie Anthony says she’s seen various accidents in the area.

“We’ve seen lots of cars in the ditch, animals deceased on the side of the road, and then on Thursday (November 28th), I saw a deer in the middle of the road that had been hit by a car.”

“When I went home, I looked on Facebook and saw that another deer, within a few hours, had been hit at the same spot.”

Anthony says she also sent a letter to Mayor Simon Yu and the Minister of Transportation and Transit, Mike Farnworth, but has yet to hear back.

She says the more signatures there are by the time they do respond will show the urgency to put in the safety improvements.

Some improvements listed on the petition include adding wildlife warning signs, better lighting, and designated crossings and barriers.

More information and the petition can be found on Change.org here.
