Regional Business Liaison report reveals common challenges in communities

Common challenges and positive steps were shown in Community Futures Fraser Fort George’s 2023-24 Regional Business Liaison report.

The report shares insights from 210 businesses across the region, highlighting distinct economic dynamics.

Planning and Development Coordinator, Natalie Allan talks about the shared challenges.

“Communities face challenges such as financial instability, staffing shortages, and a need for digital transformation training.”

“They’re looking to find access to resources that can help them stay quick on their feet and deal with challenges that they have in their business environments.”

The report has been done twice now, with the first being in 2021, with the emphasis now being the need for workforce development, overcoming regulatory hurdles, and implementing sustainable business practices.

Allan says building resilience will remain a top priority coming out of the report by developing programs tailored to the unique needs, industries, and resources of each community.

She adds they have a bit more flexibility now to take initiatives forward, such as events to learn and collaborate.

Prince George had 100 interviews conducted for the report, with 55 in Mackenzie and Robson Valley-Canoe.

Allan says the work was made possible with the support of Northern Development Initiative Trust and the Provincial Government.
