City applying for grant to explore feasibility of life sciences sector

Prince George City Council approved an application for a grant to help diversify the Northern Capital’s economy.

The City will be applying to the Rural Economic Diversification and Infrastructure Program (REDIP) for a grant of $500,000 to support the analysis of economic feasibility and potential benefit of establishing a life sciences sector in Prince George.

According to a staff report to Council, UNBC, the Lheidli T’enneh and Northern Health are pursuing an initiative to establish a life sciences sector based in Prince George that would serve northern BC residents.

This would first require an economic analysis to prove the feasibility of the initiative.

The economic analysis would include:

  • Market Research and Sector Analysis
  • Stakeholder Engagement
  • Economic Feasibility Assessment
  • Ecosystem Development Strategy
  • Policy and Funding Alignment

While UNBC would be an ineligible applicant for REDIP, but the City of Prince George is eligible, and if awarded the funding, would support the initiative as the partner.
