Riley Heidt will not be wearing the maple leaf this holiday season.
The Prince George Cougars star forward was among the final roster cuts announced by Hockey Canada today (Friday) for this World Junior team.
Heidt, a 19-year-old signed prospect of the Minnesota Wild has 37 points in 22 games for the Cougars this season.
However, the national team will have some northern BC flavour to it as Saskatoon Blades defenseman and McBride product Tanner Molendyk was one of eight blueliners named.
Molendyk initially made last year’s Canadian squad but withdrew due to injury.
The Nashville Predators prospect has 21 points in 21 games with the Blades this season.
Canada’s first game at the World Juniors in Ottawa, Ontario is on Boxing Day against Finland.
