The City of Prince George and the Prince George Humane Society are preparing for their new partnership to deliver animal shelter operations for the city.
The new partnership will begin on January 1, 2025 under a five-year deal, with the option for a three-year renewal.
The Humane Society is in the process of moving into the City-owned animal shelter facility located at 4011 Lansdowne Road.
They will also keep their existing location on First Avenue.
The Lansdowne Road building will be the community animal shelter which will handle stray animal intake, redemptions , and adoption service for both dogs and cats, while the First Avenue building will be the cat adoption and humane education centre.
“We are excited to have been selected to deliver this vital service for Prince George,” said Humane Society Executive Director Angela McLaren.
“We look forward to building on the strong foundation of animal care established in the community. The feedback we have received so far from the community has been extremely positive.”
In October, it was announced the City was not renewing their contract with the BC SPCA.
However, the BC SPCA will continue to work the City’s Bylaw Department to handle animal cruelty investigations, ensuring ongoing collaboration to support animal welfare in Prince George.
