Cariboo Cougars drop first game at Circle K Classic to Sioux Falls

Up 5-2 halfway through the game, it looked like the Cariboo Cougars were home and cooled.

That is until the Sioux Falls Power surged back to life scoring six unanswered goals en route to an 8-5 victory at Circle K Classic tournament in Calgary this morning (Friday).

Cariboo found themselves behind the eight-ball after the opening 20 minutes trailing by a 2-1 score.

Jacob Peterson and Colton Spiewak scored for the Power while Grady Gustafson replied for the U18 Cougars.

Cariboo briefly turned the tables in the middle period lighting the lamp four straight times courtesy of Gustafson, Rylan Bisset, Jaxon Larmand and, Nicholas Gordon.

No sooner did the Cougars build up the lead, Sioux Falls struck back with a vengeance scoring three goals in the final five minutes to even the score at 5-5.

Carson Young, Holden Pajor and, Jackson Bielenberg-Howarth solved Cougars goaltender Andrik Lygas.

Young, Drew Albrecht and, Owen Potulny added singles in the third to expand the Power lead.

Jaxon Dikur relieved Lygas in the third stopping all four shots he faced. Lygas made 36 saves on 44 Sioux Falls attempts.

Easton Thvedt made 14 saves in the victory for the Power.

Cariboo’s next round-robin game is tomorrow at 5:15 Pacific Time against Detroit Victory Honda.
