Chilly temperatures anticipated for Polar Bear Dip

Ness Lake Bible Camp will be hosting their annual Polar Bear Dip on January 1.

“It’s the same in a lot of ways, but the thing with the Polar Bear Dip, is the same is incredible,” said Camp Director Dave Horton.

“We’re cutting a massive hole in the ice on January 1, we’re inviting people to show up at 1:30, bring $35 to go for a dip, or bring nothing and observe.”

The funds raised from the event will help send kids to camp who are otherwise unable to afford it.

“People can go in for $35, or we really encourage people, challenge who is around you, challenge your friends and family and say “hey, I’m going to do this Polar Bear Dip, how much would you pay to see me suffer,” Horton said.

“Some people raised $200, $500, other people last year raised tens of thousands of dollars, so it’s an incredible way to do the dip, but also to do something unique in the North that benefits families in the North.”

Last year’s dip saw more than 200 people go into the water.

Environment Canada says the daytime high for the PG-area tomorrow (Wednesday) is slated to be -12 degrees.
