Penalty kill woes sink Spruce Kings in Chilliwack

The Prince George Spruce Kings will likely be taking a long, hard look at their penalty kill this week following a 5-2 loss to the Chilliwack Chiefs.

The Spruce Kings went to the box four times, with the Chiefs scoring on all four of their powerplays.

The lone Chiefs goal that didn’t come on the powerplay was put into an empty net.

The Spruce Kings ended the first period with a 2-1 lead, courtesy of Skogen Schrott and Will Moore.

Brady Milburn scored in the opening for the Chiefs, and he added another in the final minute of the second.

With the game tied at two heading into the final frame, Carter Anderson took over, scoring a hat trick in the period to cement the Chiefs’ win.

Ryder Green got the start in net for the Spruce Kings, stopping 29 of the 33 shots he faced.

The Spruce Kings (10-17-3-1) are sitting ninth in the BCHL’s Coastal Conference.

The Spruce Kings are back in action Friday when they host the Alberni Valley Bulldogs at Kopar Memorial Arena.
