Uber seeking PG drivers amid province-wide expansion

Prince George residents could soon have more ride-share options to choose from.

Uber is expanding its platform across the province this year and is calling on any drivers who are interested in making a little extra cash.

Spokesperson, Keerthana Rang told MyPGNow.com the demand for their service in other markets continues to grow.

“What we have seen is that British Columbians and visitors are constantly opening the app to try and find a ride like they can in most cities across the country. We have seen that in Prince George and that is one of the places we are looking to expand. It’s actually been five years this month since we launched in Vancouver.”

“We are doing a big push looking for drivers from Nanaimo all the way to Fort St. John and everywhere else in between including and Prince George. The idea here is that Uber is a great flexible earning opportunity.”

Uber is offering a $500 incentive for eligible drivers who complete their profile and take 10 trips within the first 4 weeks of the launch in PG.

“We have students that sign up so they can drive in between classes as well as parents who are full time caregivers where they drop off their kids at school but then can drive while they are in class. My Dad is also a driver – he is a full-time real estate agent but drives when the market is low. It is a great opportunity for people to make money to earn it in a flexible way when they want,” added Rang.

In addition, Uber has partnered with Mothers Against Drunk Driving, Hope Air and, the British Columbia Restaurant and Food Services Association during its expansion.

“Uber’s rideshare has contributed significantly to our industry, giving British Columbians the option of a sober ride home after enjoying a meal or night out. Uber has also been a game-changer for those working late night hours in the hospitality industry, helping them get home safely after their shifts. We are thrilled to hear Uber will be expanding across the province. The addition of Uber in smaller regions of BC will be a welcome addition to tourism, the BC wine industry, and an incredible convenience for families.” said Mark Rubinstein, Chief Executive Officer, Hope Air.

Anyone looking to drive with Uber will need to have a Class 1, 2 or 4 licence, pass a criminal background check and a vehicle that is nine years old or newer that can pass a provincial inspection every year.

Currently, PG’s only other ride share option is Uride, which launched in the fall of 2022.

The city also has PG Taxi and Emerald Taxi.
