Duchess Park graduate recognized with Volleyball BC scholarship

A Prince George volleyball player is one of two recipients of the $2,000 Ray Lepp Scholarship.

Macyn Unger, who is a third-year Libero at Simon Fraser University was recognized this week by Volleyball BC.

Unger is a graduate of Duchess Park Secondary School and is a product of the PG Youth Volleyball Club.

In her first two seasons at Simon Fraser, she amassed 806 digs, averaging 4.5 digs per set.

Unger also earned a spot on Team BC for four consecutive years, culminating in a bronze medal at the 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara Falls.

Last summer, Unger competed in the Shanghai Volleyball Tournament with a Canadian team, competing against some of the world’s top teams.

The PG native is also a Zone 8 gold medalist during the BC Summer Games (2018) and was rated as one of the province’s top 15 high school players in 2021.

She was also a BC high school First Team All-Star at the 2019 BC Provincial Championships.

Two scholarships are awarded each year to a post-secondary male and female athlete who show promise of competing for Canada at the national team level.
