Stuart Lake Hospital gets flood cleared week before move

As if moving wasn’t stressful enough, all hands were on deck after a flood in Stuart Lake Hospital.

Emily Prestmo with Northern Health wrote on Tuesday, an issue with the fire suppression system caused the flood a week before moving to the new Fort St. James Hospital.

She added patients and residents remained in the facility, but were moved to dry areas through quick efforts of the Fort St. James Volunteer Fire Department, BC Ambulance crew, hospital staff, and patient family members.

Once the issue was resolved, crew members from the fire department and ambulance stayed to help mop up the water, with families and off duty staff helping.

The emergency department service did experience a temporary interruption, but was able to return to normal Wednesday morning.

Stuart Lake General Hospital will move to the new location Tuesday (January 14), with the Fort St. James Health Centre moving January 20th.
