Workplace accident claims the life of a young man in Quesnel

There was a tragic accident today (Friday) at the WestPine MDF Plant in Quesnel.

RCMP Sergeant Clay Kronebusch says the call came in at 10:18 a.m.

“The Quesnel RCMP along with EHS (Emergency Health Services) and the Fire Department responded to a workplace incident on Carradice Road in Quesnel. A 24 year old man is dead following an incident and police and WorkSafe BC are investigating.”

No other details on the accident have been released.

Kronebusch says police and WorkSafe BC will conduct separate investigations.

“It’s typically protocol any time there is a workplace incident that leads to either the death of somebody or serious injury that the police investigate just to eliminate the possibility of things such as criminal negligence or that, and WorkSafe BC conducts an investigation usually simultaneously in regards to WorkSafe policies and procedures and to make sure they were followed.”

The man’s name has not been released.
