January is Alzheimer’s Awareness Month across the province, and PG Hospice Palliative Care Society is recognizing the impacts on individuals, and those around them.
In a release from the society, they said they were selected to participate in the UBC NavCARE Compassionate Dementia Inclusive Community Initiative, which supports those with dementia and their care-givers.
Community Programs Team Lead Laurie DeCroos details what this pilot initiative will accomplish.
“It’ll offer more supports to people living with dementia, their care-partners, and families. It will hopefully enhance meaning of life, purpose, and really make them included in things
DeCroos says it’s really about having a place that will be inclusive, help support quality of life, and support the care-partners.
The society added the program will help strengthen the support network for those impacted by Alzheimer’s and dementia, creating a community that values and uplifts those affected.
They’re inviting the community with dementia and those that care for them to complete a survey that helps identify strengths and opportunities for the program, which can be found here.
